Choose You.
“Pick me. Choose me. Love me.” If you are Grey’s Anatomy fan, you know exactly what I’m talking about. It is one of the greatest lines and probably the most memorable quote from the entire series. I spent my life up until this year begging God to send someone to choose me… all the while I could have been choosing myself. Don’t you think that it is so weird that so many of us define ourselves by our marital status? I’ll start living when…. I’ll take that trip when… My life will have more value when…
It took me a long time to realize that my life has just as much value now as it will when I am married. It also took me a long time to realize that being married is not the end all be all. I am really excited for the day that I’m dating, engaged, married, etc, but I am going to do my best to … wait.
“But God’s not finished. He’s waiting around to be gracious to you.
He’s gathering strength to show mercy to you.
God takes the time to do everything right—everything.
Those who wait around for him are the lucky ones.”
There are two kinds of waiting. There is passive waiting, and there is active waiting. Passive waiting is ineffective. It involves worrying, wishing, and comparison. It takes your eyes off of God’s presence and promises and focuses your attention on what you have deemed as lack in your life. Active waiting involves hope. When you are actively waiting, you are taking the vision that God has given you for your life, and you are doing your part to effectuate it, while wholeheartedly pursuing God.
We’re diving into the topic of singleness all month long, and I hope you’ll join the conversation! It’s time to PICK YOU. It’s time to CHOOSE YOU. It’s time to LOVE YOU.
